The Open Championship 2019 Field: Who's Qualified?

By Evan Chronis April 15, 2019

The Open Championship is headed to Northern Ireland for the first time in 68 years.

The Claret Jug will take center stage at Royal Portrush in July, and golf's best will be aiming to claim the oldest Major championship crown.

There are several ways for a golfer to qualify for The Open Championship, including The Open Championship Qualifying Series — a global collection of tournaments that allow golfers to punch their ticket to Royal Portrush.

Here is who has most recently qualified:

Golf's resident "Late Bloomer" reached the climax of his career after Gary Woodland took home the U.S. Open on June 16.

The 35-year-old held off a late surge from Major-trophy hunter Brooks Koepka, finishing 13-strokes under par and three ahead of the winner of the last two U.S. Open's.

The Father's Day feat by Woodland was highlighted by an immaculate winning putt on No.18, sinking a birdie when he had three strokes to still claim the title.

But the Championship was really won on No.17. After a quasi-errant shot on the Par 3 that landed barely within the borders of the green. With Koepka still trailing by just two strokes, Woodland needed a miraculous shot to save par on the hole. Then, with his wedge in hand, he worked his magic.

The immaculate shot set Woodland up for a stroll on No.18 and earned him the U.S. Open Trophy.
